Working with Zoya each week is a joyful experience for Chloe. Zoya approaches the goal of weekly ‘arts exploration’ with a smile on her face, a song in her heart and kindness and consideration for Chloe’s holistic needs in every step of their shared journey.

Zoya’s curiosity about life and the world around her is so appealing and, I think, a little infectious. Chloe is both validated in her choices and challenged to expand her horizons. It is a highlight of Chloe’s week and she is enriched by this companionship.

I am an NDIS Provider for Therapeutic Supports — Registered Professional Creative Arts Therapist (ANZACATA), Master’s-level trained Allied Health clinician.

Art Therapy meets the NDIS criteria for evidence-based practice.

Art therapy is a multimodal intervention, combining multiple components that are all known to be health promoting (Craig et al., 2008). Art therapy involves aesthetic engagement, involvement of the imagination, sensory activation, evocation of emotion and cognitive stimulation, and social interaction.

The World Health Organization’s Health Evidence Network Synthesis Report 67 (Fancourt & Finn, 2019) identified a major role for art therapy in the promotion of health, and management and treatment of illness across the lifespan.
